Charles was born to Fleumal S. Durham and his wife Bedelia Carolina Quigley Durham in the mining country of Cripple, Creek, Colorado. He joined a sister named Kathlyn. They lived in Altman where the elevation was 11,200 feet. His father worked in the Vindicator mine in Victor, Colorado at the time of his birth. His father died in 1909. Bedelia then married William J. Young in Weiser, Idaho in 1912. Charles took his last name for his own. At the time of Charles's death he was serving in the Army in Co. K 7th Infantry. He was stationed at the Vancouver Barracks in Vancouver, Washington. There are pictures of him with the Fire Brigade at the barracks. He is survived by his half-brother Joe Young and his half-sister Ellen Woolery. He was proceeded in death by his father Fleumal and his half brother Benny Young of Indian Valley, Id.. After his death the following members of his family have also died:his mother Bedelia of Albany, OR., step-father William J. Young of Caldwell, Id., sister Kathlyn Hill of Pocatello, Id., half-sisters Pansy Acordagoitia of Caldwell, Id., Ethel Schmidt of Lebanon, Or. and half- brother Joe A. Young, Fruitland, Id.
