CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Ruby J. Absher, age 63, of Cedar Bluff, Va., died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 in a Richlands, Va. hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Red Ash, Va. and was a daughter of the late William and Christine Lillian Mason Sparks, both Tazewell County natives.
She made her home in the Cedar Bluff area the past twenty years and was a member of the Wilderness Holiness Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Howard A. Bartee; two grandchildren, Jennifer Bertina Sparks and Taylor Elizabeth Grace Absher; also, one brother, William Sparks, Jr.
Survivors are: Her husband, Mr. Darrell W. Absher; four daughters: Mrs. Wanda Massaro and husband, Anthony of Wantagh, N.Y., Mrs. Tabby Arms and husband, Randall Lee of Red Ash, Va., Mrs. Patricia Boone and husband, Grant, Jr. of Warren, Ohio, Mrs. Melissa Sparks and husband, Matthew of Hickory, N.C.; three sons: Mr. Howard Eugene Bartee and wife, Banish of Clintwood, Va., Mr. David William Absher and wife, Elizabeth of Tazewell, Va., Mr. Darrell Wayne Absher and wife, Mandi of Hickory, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Brenda Jo Lowe and husband, Bob of Red Ash, Va.; her mother-in-law, Mrs. Sadie Absher of Cedar Bluff, Va.; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby J. Absher will be conducted at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Pastor Eddie Baldwin and the Rev. Andrew Blankenship officiating.
Interment will follow in Temple Hill Cemetery at Castlewood, Va.
Pallbearers will be: Allen Osborne, Josh Osborne, Matthew Sparks, Brian Ramsey, Bobby Dye, Bobby Lowe, Jr., Darrell Wayne Absher, and Mike Hunnell.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements.
