Oregon Death Certificate #84-16584.

Orisa Abbott was born on Christmas Day 1896 at Jerome, Arizona to Guy and Nellie (Wilcox) Sears. The family would move to Washington where a younger sister Ada was born in 1902. They would move to Central Oregon going by train to Shaniko and then by stagecoach to Bend. Her father then moved the family to Powell Butte in 1905 where they took up a homestead, building a house out of second hand timber which kept the home pretty well ventilated from all the cracks and knot holes. Another sister Doris was born here in 1908 but lived to be only four years old when she died of Diphtheria.
Orisa began school in Bend, went to grade school at Redmond, and graduated from high school in Prineville. After school she moved to The Dalles and worked at the cannery while she went to nursing school and graduated in 1921.
Orisa met and married Curtis "Joel" Abbott, the son of Joel and Mary (Delore) Abbott. He was a farmer and rancher from Suplee, Oregon. They were married in Wasco, County on November 18, 1923, she was 26 and he was 32. To this union three boys were born. Joel and Orisa divorced in 1939. Neither Orisa nor Joel were ever to remarry and Joel passed away in 1965. Orisa was to work as a nurse mostly in Bend and Redmond. She retired at the age of 76 from the Redmond Hospital. She died at the age of 87 on September 23, 1984 and is buried in the Redmond Memorial Cemetery. She would leave behind two sons, Harold and Ron Abbott and a sister Ada Paul. She was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth in 1962.
