Funeral services for John Dennis "J.D." Sorey, 81, were held at 10 am on Tuesday, July 4, 1995, from the Ott & Lee Chapel in Forest.
Rev. H.O. Carmichael and Rev. Everett officiated.
Interment was made at the Carr Methodist Cemetery, Forest.
Mr. Sorey passed away on Sunday, July 2, 1995, at Smith County General Hospital, following an extended illness. Mr. Sorey had been a life-long resident of the Pineville Community in Smith County. He was the owner and operator of Sorey's Grocery store in Pineville for over 12 years. He was a member of the Pineville Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gladys Sorey of Pineville; one daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Cushman of Pineville; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Kathy Reid of Union; two stepsons, Mr. Ray Rowzee of Decatur and Mr. Wayne Rowzee of Pride, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Maudie Hull of Laurel and Mrs. Zora Sanders of Jackson; one brother, Mr. Hillman Sorey of Pineville; 2 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Johnny Hull, Carl Hull, Ronnie Hull, Timothy Presley, Gary Cushman and Ray Rowzee.
