Watauga Man Commits Suicide At Home Friday
An elderly Watauga County man committed suicide and was found hanging in his barn on Friday afternoon.
Alan David Adams, 73, of Rt. 1, Vilas was discovered by his wife who notified the Watauga County Sheriff's Department just after noon on Friday.
Dr. Evan Ashby, the Watauga County Medical Examiner, ruled Adams' death a suicide.
He was born in Watauga County, July 20, 1905, son of the late Amos and Susanna Greene Adams. He was a member of the Cove Creek Baptist Church and retired farmer.
Adams is survived by his widow, Mrs. Stella Mae Adams; two sons, Gilbert Adams of Silver City, N. M. and Johnny Adams of Vilas; two daughters, Mrs. Peggy Park of Birmingham, Ala. and Mrs. Blanch Credico of Ormand Beach, Fla.; two stepssons, Burl Greene of Morristown, Tenn., Billy Greene of Mentor, Ohio; three sisters, Mrs. Rosa Moody and Mrs. Eunice Eller, both of Vilas, Mrs. Crete Cornell of New York; 24 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted this afternoon at the Cove Creek Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. J. R. Bouldin. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
