David Lee Abbott Sr., 81, of Martinsville, formerly of New Castle, went to be with the Lord Sunday, December 27, 2009. Born April 13, 1928 in Craig County, VA.
Parents; John Wesley Abbott and Eva Lake Greenway. David served 25 years working for the State Department of Agriculture to promote public safety through oversight of food products. He took great pride and determination in his job. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Eva Abbott, son, Lowell Abbott, brothers, Shiny, Rufus and Paul Abbott, sisters, Glenna Brickey, Delcie Huffman, and Emma Harless. He is survived by fiance, Shirley Murphy, of Martinsville, Va.; sons and daughters-in-law, Lee Abbott and wife, Mary, of New Castle, Ind., Mike Abbott and wife, Nellie, of Roanoke, Va.; daughter, Kathryn Thompson, of Roanoke, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery Abbott and wife, Vickie, of Luray, Va.; son, Gregory Abbott, of Stanley, Va., son and daughter-in-law, Brian Murphy and wife, Jennifer, of Martinsville, Va.; sister, Rosa Reynolds, of New Castle, Va.; 16 grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren, and one greatgreat-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Paitsel Funeral Home with Pastor John Abbott and David Bishop, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow at Brickey Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Paitsel Funeral Home. Arrangements by Paitsel Funeral Home.
