Memorial services for Edwin Aanenson will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28 at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. The Maurice E. Hagen and Lay Ministerial Assistant Dan Smith will officiate. There will be no visitation at the church prior to the memorial service. Burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne, will take place prior to the memorial service.

Edwin G. Aanenson, 75 Luverne, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, in Luverne Community Hospital.

Edwin Gerhart Aanenson was born to Theodore and Andrianne (Moi) Aanenson on March 8 1925. He attended country school in Rock County and Luverne High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He fought in the European Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was one of seven brothers who served in the armed forces.

He married Naidine Wulf on July 2, 1948, in Luverne. He worked for A.R. wood Manufacturing for 14 years and IBP for 22 years. He retired in 1983 due to health reasons. During his retirement years he worked part-time at Rip's Gas Station and Citgo.

Mr. Aanenson was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Luverne and served as head usher for many years. He was also active in athletics. He played and coached baseball and softball for about 40 years. Many teams that he coached advanced to state tournaments. He started the girl's softball league in Rock County. Fishing was another hobby that he enjoyed. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Luverne.

Survivors include his wife, Naidine Aanenson, Luverne; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Mari Aanenson, Carthage, Ill.; two daughters Rebecca and Dan Anderson, and Bonnie and Alan Leenderts, all of Hills; nine grandchildren, Susan Blomgren, Wayne Aanenson, Jason and Stephen Oden, Aric Leenderts, Tracee Brouwer, David, Ronald and Joseph Aanenson; four great-grandchildren, Britny, Matthew, Courtny and Kenda Blomgren; one brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Eunice Aanenson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sisters, Selma Gyberg, Beaver Creek, and Luella Braa, Luverne; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Aanenson, Anoka, and Elizabeth Aanenson, Luverne.

Mr. Aanenson was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Aanen (infant), Alex, Aanen, Selmer, Arnie and his twin brother, Erling, and three sisters, Alvilda Aanenson, Edia Aanenson and Lillian Roemeling.

Engebretson Funeral Home, Luverne, was in charge of arrangements.
