services were Friday, Oct. 14, in Engebretson Funeral Home in Luverne. The Rev. Maurice E. Hagen officiated. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Luverne. Pallbearers were David Remme, Kathe Stearns, Rebecca Oden, Laverne Kafka, Arlin and Curtis Gyberg.
Selmer Aanenson was born to Theodore and Anna (Moi) Aanenson on Dec. 10, 1921, in rural Rock County. He attended rural school and was a lifelong resident of the county. He was baptized and confirmed in the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America. On Sept. 28, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving as a machinist's mate. He served aboard the USS Sagamore and the USS Henderson. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 11, 1946. He was one of seven brothers who served their country during World War II, his brothers all served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the VFW in Luverne.
Survivors include four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Arnie and Edwin and Naidine Aanenson, all of Luverne, Erling Aanenson, Sweetwater, Texas, and Theodore and Eunice, Sioux Falls; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Selma, Gyberg, Beaver Creek, and Luella and Charles Braa, Luverne, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Aanenson was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Aanen (infant), Alex and Aanen, and three sisters, Alvilda Aanenson, Edia Aanenson and Lillian Roemeling.
Engebretson Funeral Home, Luverne, was in charge of arrangements.
