Lily J. Abbott, 86, lifelong area resident, died Wednesday evening of age-related causes at her Moscow home.

She was born Aug. 14, 1908, to George and Maude Simms Chaney at Viola. She grew up and attended school at Viola.

She married D. Eldon Abbott Aug. 28, 1926 at Moscow. They made their home at Viola, Potlatch and moved to Moscow in 1950. The owned and operated several business in the area. He died May 2, 1994.

She provided child care in her home for many years and was affectionately known as Grandma. She also worked as a cook at the University of Idaho for a time.

She was a member of the United Church of Moscow and a life member of the Order of Eastern Star at Potlatch. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, raising children and being with people.

She is survived by 13 grand-children and 22 great-grandchildren. [Named survivors omitted per Find a Grave policy.] She was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers and a grandson.

Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Short's. The Rev. Mike Burr will officiate.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Latah Care Center Home Health and may be left at the funeral home.
