She was born Sept. 28, 1932, to Albert and Letha Hersey Taft at Clancy, Mont. The family moved to Metaline Falls when she was a child. She attended school at Metaline Falls. She moved to Moscow after graduation from high school and worked for GTE for seven years.
She cooked for several sorority houses on the University of Idaho campus for several years.
She moved to western Washington and married Dwight Abbott in 1972 at Lacey, Wash. They return to Moscow. She worked as a custodian at the UI for 20 years. She took early medical retirement in 1992.
She enjoyed life and all it offered. She was especially fond of flower gardening, baking and cooking. She specialized in baking wedding cakes She also enjoyed camping and fishing. She enjoyed her family and was a grandma to every child she knew.
She is survived by her husband at their Moscow home, four stepchildren, eight sisters, three brothers, and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister
Memorial services are scheduled for Nov 7 at 1 p.m. at Short's Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Church of the Nazarene will officiate. The family suggests memorials may made to Alternative to Violence of the Palouse, P.O. Box 8527, Moscow, Idaho, 83843; or to Hospice of the Palouse, 700 S. Main, Moscow, Idaho, 83843.
