Alfalfa Pioneer Dies; Services Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Stephens, Alfalfa resident since 1904, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Alfalfa Methodist church. Rev. A.F. Heusel, retired Carnegie minister, officiated with Rev. Gary Hawkins, Pastor assisting. Burial was at Alfalfa.
Mrs. Stephens died Saturday at Mercy hospital after being transferred there from the Carnegie hospital. She had been in the local hospital since November 28.
Nellie Rose Bennett, daughter of Walter and Martha Bennett, was born March 30, 1887, at Seneca, Mo. She was married to Walter A. Sinclair and in 1904 they established a home in Caddo county near Alfalfa. She had been a member of the Alfalfa Methodist church many years.
In October, 1930, she was married to V.W. Stephens at Anadarko. He preceded her in death December 31, 1955.
She is survived by four sons, Allen C. Sinclair, Carnegie, Marion R. Sinclair of Salinas, Calif., Victor W. Stephens of Mustang, and J.T. Stephens, Carnegie; five daughters, Grace L. Simmons of Aromas, Calif., Lorene Gamel, Carnegie, Ione Beall of San Francisco, Alice Shaw and Rachel C. Recker, both of Carnegie; one brother, Luther L. Bennett of Hanford, Calif., six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other relatives.
