JONESVILLE - A two-vehicle crash claimed the life of a Jonesville woman Wednesday afternoon. Virginia State Trooper Tim Deel said Connie Jean Blanken , 63, died at the scene of the 3:30 p.m. crash in the Left Poor Valley area.Deel said the driver of the other vehicle, a 17-year-old male, was westbound on Route 621 when he came around a curve and lost control of his 1993 Mitsubishi and struck the Blanken vehicle, a 1996 Chevrolet Corsica, in a semi-headon driver-to-driver impact. The crash spun both vehicles off the road to their right and over embankments. Neither driver was wearing seat belts and drugs and alcohol were not involved, he said. Deel said cited excessive speed on the part of the juvenile as the cause of the crash. Blanken was pronounced dead at the scene and the juvenile was taken to Lee Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Holston Valley Medical Center with apparent internal injuries. An investigation into the crash continues, and charges against the juvenile are pending.
