Louis/Alois Abbl was born on April 4, 1885 to John and Anna Marschaleck Abbl in West Newton Township (now a ghost town) in Nicollet County, Minnesota. Seven younger siblings were also born there, one of whom died in infancy. His older sister was born in Missouri.

In 1902 the entire family of nine moved to eastern Washington near the Idaho border. Louis went to work for the Benedictine Sisters who taught school in Colton and Uniontown, Washington. In 1907 the Sisters moved to land in Cottonwood, Idaho where they built St Gertrude's Monastery. Louis moved also and built his own house on a farm in Keuterville, not far from Cottonwood.

On May, 14 1916, Louis married Nora Lemire in Aitkin County, Minnesota where her family lived. The 1920 US Census shows him living in Keuterville, Idaho with his wife and daughter, Yvonne. By 1930 it was just he and his three children, Yvonne, Margaret, and Dennis, living on the farm. Nora was living at Idaho State Hospital North in Orofino. Nora died in 1933 and was buried in Keuterville. Louis never remarried.

In 1940 Yvonne married and moved to Washington. Margaret went along and worked until she married. Only Dennis remained to work the farm, but then WWII intervened and he went to war. After the war ended, Dennis returned to the farm, married and raised a large family there. Eventually Dennis and his family moved to Arizona leaving Louis to work the farm alone.

Louis lived on his beloved farm in Keuterville, now also a ghost town, until he died at the age of 86 on May 4, 1971. He was buried in the Keuterville Community Cemetery near his wife, Nora. Louis was survived by his three children, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandsons and a great-granddaughter. As of 2015, all of his children have passed away; the house still stands; the farm is still in the family.
