He was the son of Zebadiah & Elizabeth (Hale) Abbott.

He attended Phillips Exeter Academy, 1827-29; 3 yrs. at Dartmouth College,
and 1 year at Yale, graduating there 1833. 1833-39, in Kentucky, teacher 2
years at Greensburg; studied and practiced medicine, attending lectures at
Lexington and at Louisville, where he graduated 1839.
1839-46,
He practiced at Jefferson City, Mo.; in 1846-56, practiced in Callaway County,
Missouri, carrying on a farm meanwhile. In 1856 he moved to Fulton in same county,
where in 1863 he was appointed supt. of the State Insane Asylum there
located; this position he resigned in 1867 and removed to Pleasant Hill
in Cass County, where he spent the last years of his life.

A city paper characterized him as "A member of the church 40 years, a ruling elder 30
years;" "a learned, judicious and successful physician;" "decided in his
opinions, firm in executing his designs, and punctual in the discharge of
duty."
He married 1st Mary B. Akin, 20 Apr 1838, Greensburg, Green County, Kentucky.
She died 12 Oct 1838.in this same location.

He married 2nd Mary Rebecca Hart, 21 Oct 1840, Jefferson City, Cole County, Missouri. They were on the census for 1850 and 1860 in Callaway County. By the time of the 1870 census they were residing in Pleasant Hill, Cass County, Missouri.

He was the father of three known Children;
1. Charles Hale b-17 May 1843
2. Annie Curd b-1847
3. Caroline Hart b-16 Aug 1849
