Harley "Gene" Buckner, 65, of Ooltewah, born March 13, 1943, died in a local hospital on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, after battling cancer and other illnesses for 14 years.

Retired in 1998 from McKee Baking Co. after 35 years of service, he was a member of Gamble Road Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his father and mother, Robert and Myrtle; sister, Connie Buckner.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Buckner; son, David (Elizabeth) Buckner; daughter, Gayle (Mike) Gossett; grandchildren, Brittany (Jason) Maynor, Nicholas Buckner, Fawnna Parker, Jesse, Summer, Manuela, Enrique and Albert; great-granddaughters, Makala and Abigail Maynor; brother, Colonel Buckner, of Tellico Plains, Tn.; sisters, Sue Aaron, Dora Lee Newman, Barbara Wade, all of Etowah, Tn., Linda Brogdon and Nora Nation, both of Apison, Helen Leamon, of Ooltewah; several nieces and nephews.

He was a very loved man and will be missed by everyone.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Gamble Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Josh Cornelius and the Rev. Ronnie Powell officiating.

The body will lie in state at the church from 11 a.m. until funeral time.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-8 p.m. on Monday.
