Mrs. Abney was born in Bleckley County, the daughter of the late Eugene William Nobles, Sr. and Mamie Lee Heath Nobles. She was the widow of Arthur Franklin Booth, Sr. and James Abney. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was a retired curriculum director of the City of Dublin School System and taught in the Twiggs County School System, City of Cochran System and Bleckley County School System. She was a graduate of the Georgia State College for Women, Georgia State College and the University of Georgia.

Survivors include two sons, James Earl Boothe of Danville and Arthur Frank Boothe of Griffin; granddaughter, Angela Marie Boothe of Athens; brothers, Harold L. Nobles of Columbia, SC and Elder Rubert Nobles of Danville; sisters, Mary Celeste Nobles of Montgomery, Alabama and Emma Jean Lovato of Cochran.
