BROWN
Harriet Beatrice Brown, third daughter of Elias and Emma Scales, was born February 26, 1883, in Wayne County, Iowa. Her early life was spent on the farm and she attended the Maple Grove School, later attended Drake University. She then taught school for several years.
On October 22, 1907, she was united in marriage to Clarence Otto Brown. They remained in Wayne County for many years, moving to Chariton in 1938, where she and her husband operated the sale barn. In 1955, after her husband's death, she moved to 646 Osage in Chariton.
She passed away at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital on June 14, 1984 at the age of 101 years.
Early in life she joined the Christian Church at New York, Iowa. While in Chariton she attended the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband and other relatives.
She is survived by her four children: two daughters, Wilma Abel of Chariton and Margaret and husband Carl Jackson of Mission, Texas; and two sons, Melvin Brown and wife Maxine and Waldo, all of Chariton. She is also survived by seven granddaughters; five grandsons; 24 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Bee Brown were held Saturday, June 16, 1984 at 1 p.m. at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton. The service was conducted by Rev. Wauneita McConnell. Music was provided by Mrs. Lonna Wantland. Bearers were Dennis Brown, Merlon Jackson, Kyle Abel, Gary Brown, Craig Jackson, Wayne Abel, Gene McNeish and Benji Bingaman. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery.
