George Truett (G.T.) Adams, 85, of the Kirklands Creek Community went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 21, 2011 at his residence. A native of Swain County, he was the son of the late Cola and Myrtle Raby Adams. G.T. was a retired and decorated U.S. Army and Navy Veteran having served in WWII, Korea, and the Vietnam Wars. He was a member and past commander of the Cherokee and Bryson City VFW and the Steve Youngdeer American Legion. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Ledford.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Bradley Adams; six children, Delores Bradley and husband Lee of Oak Ridge, TN, Harold Adams and wife Kathleen of Bryson City, Bill Adams and wife Marsha of Danville, VA, Dennis Adams of Whittier, Carolyn Williamson and husband Bill of Bryson City, Lynn Ward and friend Mike of Bryson City; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Jack Adams of Whittier; four sisters, Martha Wiggins of Gastonia, Hazel Long of Fletcher, Becky Harper of Gastonia, and Betty Holcombe of Sylva.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 in the chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Rev. Danny Lambert will officiate with burial in Swain Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by the Steve Youngdeer American Legion Post 143, Cherokee, NC.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
