Daddy was a very patient, kind, and gentle man who possessed a unique wisdom and understanding of the human spirit. He passed away at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. He was a native of East Feliciana Parish, born Sept. 26, 1923, to Augustus William DeLee Sr. and Lillie Covington DeLee.

He was the co-founder of Babe Ruth Baseball in the Felicianas and instrumental in establishing charters throughout the region during the late 1950s. A.W. retired from the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad in 1983 after 40 years service. He was a member of Clear Creek Methodist Church in Felixville. He was initiated and raised in 1963 at Feliciana Masonic Lodge 31, St. Francisville, and Plural to Olive Lodge 52, Clinton, in 1995, where he served as Master in 1998.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lillie Katherine Hebert DeLee; son, Augustus William III "Billy" and his wife, Shelley; three daughters, Kathy Zumbro and Glen Zumbro, Sharon Breaux and husband Terry, and Carlin Varnado and husband Doug. He leaves 10 grandchildren, Randy DeLee and fiancée Adriana Esquivel, Michael and Jeffrey DeLee, Chea Z. Branning and husband Chris, Chonda Zumbro-Jackson, Curtis Breaux and his wife, Candice, Melissa B. Bonaventure and her husband, Tommy, Christopher Breaux and his wife, Alexi, Spencer Varnado and his wife, Vicki, Marshall Varnado and his wife, Emily; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Colleen DeLee Hanks and Mavis DeLee Sharp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Augustus Spencer, Willie L. DeLee, Elvis A. DeLee and Archie L. DeLee; and six sisters, Lillie Mae Harvey, Minnie Abrams, Hazel Hurst, Bonnie Eckert, Vera Doughty and Marie Kendrick.

Visitation at Clear Creek United Methodist Church, La. 432, Felixville, until funeral service. Interment will be in Clear Creek United Methodist Church Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Charlet Funeral Home.
