Mrs. Ackerman was born June 26, 1918, in Huger, SC, a daughter of Ed Gaskins and Rosa Bell Rabourne Gaskins. She was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church and the widow of Billy Ackerman. Although she had no children of her own, she raised her great-nieces as her own. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Edie Gaskins, Ollie Gaskins, Leonard Gaskins, Rudolph Gaskins, Ernest Gaskins, and Eddie Gaskins.
Surviving are: her two daughters/great-nieces, Liz Foreman and Lisa Fort, both of Shulerville; a brother, Hazel Gaskins of Huger; four grandchildren, Ginger Cook, Charles Foreman, Hannah Cook, and Gracie Fort; a great-grandchild, Christopher Drayton Cook.
Funeral services were Sunday, June 4, 2006, in Hopewell Baptist Church, Huger. Burial, directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home of Moncks Corner, followed in the Church Cemetery.
