Wendell Allen Smith of Holyoke was born January 21, 1927 in Holyoke, the fourth child of Vernon and Leona Daniels Smith. He passed away February 15, 1996 at his home in Holyoke at the age of 69.

Smith was raised and educated in Holyoke. He served in the U.S. Navy from March 17, 1945 until July 5, 1946.

Wendell married Ramona Jane Wisdom on April 25, 1948. To this union four children were born, Helen, Linda, Robert and David.

Smith went to work for Guy Poe in 1948 and continued there until 1972. He and Ramona moved to Holyoke in December of that year. He was employed by Holyoke Co-op from January 1973 until the time of his death.

Wendell played softball at Pleasant Valley Ball Park and bowled every week. He loved spending time with his family, especially when he could go fishing and camping with them. He was a member of First Christian Church of Holyoke and the local chapters of the V.F.W. and American Legion.

Preceding him in death were his parents, first-born sister Katherine Darlene and older brother Sidney O. Smith.

Survivors include wife Ramona J. Wisdom Smith of Holyoke; daughters Helen Miller and husband Gale of Toledo, Ohio and Linda Kubo and husband Monte of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; sons Robert Smith and wife Janet and David Smith and wife Rhonda, all of Holyoke; grandchildren Randall Lee Smith, Kent Starks and wife Stephanie of Junction City, Kansas, Angela and Traci Wall and Jenifer and Amanda Kubo of Belle Fourche, South Dakota and Jyl, Lee and Jon Smith and Landon, Marissa and Tanner Smith of Holyoke.

Step grandchildren Joshua and Rachel Miller of Toledo, Ohio and Ryan and Shawn Kubo of Belle Fourche, South Dakota; one great grandson; sisters Lois Lakey and husband Bobbie of Benkelman, Nebraska, Elizabeth Myer and husband Gerald of Haigler, Nebraska, Nancy Bradford and husband Walt of Wray and Patricia Warren and husband Leonard of Holyoke; brothers Stanton and wife Dorothy of Holyoke, Gerald and wife Carolyn of Kansas City, Missouri and Robert and wife Sharon of Sterling.

Sisters-in-law Bonnie Smith of Holyoke, Katherine Mares and husband Jim of Thornton, Mildred Johnson and husband Don of Westminster and Helen Roberts of Denver; brothers-in-law James Wisdom of Commerce City, Ernest Wisdom and wife Nancy of Loveland and Max Wisdom and wife Pat of Colorado Springs, two aunts, an uncle, numberous nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.

Services were held Monday, February 19, 1996 at First Christian Church of Holyoke with Jim Blake officiating. Interment followed at Holyoke Memorial Park.
