Lavina E. Vorderstrasse, 92, of Plymouth died at a Lincoln hospital on Sunday, September 1, 2013. She was born on August 19, 1921 at Wheaton KS and was baptized and confirmed at the Missouri Synod Church at Duluth, KS. She lived at rural Wheaton and attended country school at rural Wheaton.

She married Arnold Vorderstrasse on February 25, 1944 at Duluth, KS and they lived and farmed at rural Plymouth. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of rural Plymouth and did quilting for the church. She enjoyed quilting, flowers, gardening, square dancing and playing cards.

Survivors include her daughter, Leatha Fay Christ of Diller; her son, Gary Vorderstrasse and wife Ellen of Plymouth; one granddaughter, Heather Krieger and husband Todd of Syracuse and two grandsons, Nathan Christ and wife Vicki of Omaha and Shane Vorderstrasse of Plymouth; two step-grandsons, Brandon Miller and wife Antonette of Alpharetta, GA and Corey Miller of Beatrice; four great-granddaughters, Alexa, Camden and Brynn Krieger of Syracuse and Brooklyn Christ of Omaha; one great-grandson, Connor Christ of Omaha; one step-great-granddaughter, Maci Maxson-Miller; one sister, Olga Fairbanks of Onago, KS; one brother, Chester Abitz and wife Florence of Wheaton, KS; three sisters-in-law, Lydia Stupenhorst and Selma Kruger both of Ridgeway, CO and Luella Parde of Beatrice; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helena Hinzman Abitz; her husband Arnold who died on August 27, 1997; infant daughter, Sharon; two brothers, Herbert Abitz and Almon Abitz; six sisters, Martha Schwisow, Hilda Kufhal, Meta Figge, Lydia Schwant, Selma Wagoner and Frieda Abitz.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Peace Lutheran Church of rural Plymouth with Maynard Kellerman PMA officiating.

Burial will be at the Peace Lutheran Cemetery of rural Plymouth. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. Thursday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family's choice with the church elders in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Plymouth from 4:00 P.M. Tuesday until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and at the church one hour preceding the service on Thursday. Fox Funeral Home of Plymouth is in charge of the arrangements.
