Herbert F. Abitz, 74, Wheaton, died Tuesday, January 24, 1989, at Onaga Community Hospital.
 
He was born February 5, 1914, northeast of Wheaton, one of 11 children of William F. and Lena Marie Hinzman Abitz.
 
Mr. Abitz farmed in the Wheaton area all his life.  He also was a self-employed carpenter many years and had worked several years at Kufahl Hardware in Wheaton. 
 
Mr. Abitz was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton and St. Luke’s Men’s Club at the church.  He also had served on the former Pleasant Hill School Board northeast of Wheaton.
 
He was married to Adelina L. Honig March 16, 1938 at Duluth.  She survives. 
 
Other survivors include three sons, Jerry Abitz of the home, Lee Abitz, Emmett, and Ron Abitz, Wheaton; eight sisters, Mrs. Lydia Schwant, Blaine, Mrs. Meta Figge, Wheaton, Mrs. Hilda Kufahl and Mrs. Olga Fairbanks, both of Onaga, Mrs. Martha Schwisow, Fairbury, Nebr., Mrs. Selma Wegner, Manhattan, Frieda Abitz, Wichita, and Mrs. Lavina Vorderstrasse, Plymouth, Nebr., two brothers, Almon Abitz, Wheaton, and Chester Abitz, Onaga; and five grandchildren.
 
Services were at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 27, in St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wheaton.  Burial was in St. Luke Lutheran North Cemetery at Wheaton.
