Andrew Ackerman born 18 October 1867 in Neusatz, Beresan, Odessa, South Russia was the son of Jacob Ackerman and Katherina Eissinger.
Andrew at the age of 17 with his parents and siblings; Jacob, Peter, George, Johann and Sophia, immigrated to America via the Port of Bremen, Germany, aboard the SS "Werra" and arrived at the Port of New York, New York, on the 1st of April 1885.
Andrew married Elizabeth Jahraus in 1889 in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. This union was blessed waith no less than seven children.
Andrew homesteaded near his father's farm and occasionally worked at the Artas, Campbell County, South Dakota elevator.
