Obituary Bismarck Tribune (May 10, 1999)
HAZEN -- Ervin Adolf, 77, and Bernice Adolf, 71, Hazen, died May 10, 1999, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Hazen. Services will be held at 10 a.m. MDT Saturday, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, with the Revs. Walt Wolff and Duane Hanson officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, rural Hazen.

Serving as pallbearers for Ervin will be Gary Knell, Dan Knell, Victor Knell, Dick Dever, Dallas Guenthner and Duane knell. Serving as pallbearers for Bernice will be Larry Flemmer, Stan Flemmer, Wayne Breimeier, Mike Bauer, Curtis Breimeier and Bill Breimeier.

Visitation hours will be from 4-7 p.m. today, at Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen.

Ervin was born June 15, 1921, at Hazen, a son of Reinhold and Pauline (Oster) Adolf. He was raised and educated north of Hazen. Bernice was born March 28, 1928, in the Blue Grass area south of Hazen, a daughter of Wilhelm and Leah (Bauer) Bauer. She was raised and educated in the Otter Creek area.

Ervin and Bernice were married on Jan. 11, 1949, at Hazen. They lived on the same farm as Clarence and Irene Adolf for a time. In 1950, they moved to their own farm where they farmed until retiring in 1992, when they moved to Hazen. Bernice and Ervin had been members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, north of Hazen, until it closed. They then became member of Peace Lutheran Church, Hazen, where they were very active. They were also members of the Hazen Senior Citizens, had served as 4-H leaders and enjoyed square dancing.

They are survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Helen Adolf, Eden Prairie, Minn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Donnette and Doug Pemberton, Laurel, Mont.; their grandchildren, Nicole Adolf, Jill and Dave Eubanks, Mandi Pemberton, Richie Pemberton, Brandon Pemberton and T.J. Vachal; one great-granddaughter, Alexa Eubanks.

Ervin and Bernice were preceded in death by their granddaughter, Samantha Vachal.

Ervin also is survived by two sisters, Violet and Armond Isaak, Hazen, and Ida and Arnold Knell, Hazen. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clarence; and two sisters, Hertha Knell and Frieda Guenthner. Bernice is also survived by five sisters, Verona Breimeier, New Salem, Doris Keller, Lebanon, Ore., Ruth and Howard Gray, Lebanon, Ore., Janice and Norman Eggers, Mission, Texas, and Anita Flemmer, Beulah; three brothers, Marvin and Bernice Bauer, New Salem, Lloyd and Wilma Bauer, Salem, Ore., and Arlois and Eunice Bauer, Lebanon, Ore.
