The funeral for Stanley t. Aarestad, 65, of Flandreau, South Dakota was held at the Shaw Messer Chapel in Watertown, South Dakota April 6. He died at Sioux Falls April 3 after a short illness.
Stanley was born August 7, 1915, the son of the late Torkel and Serina Aarestad, at Cooperstown, North Dakota. He spent his early years at Juanita and McHenry and completed his education at North Dakota State University in Fargo. He was married in 1943 to Helen Hartvickson of Knox, North Dakota. After serving in the Air Force he farmed in the Jamestown area until 1957 when he moved to Minot where he sold home improvement products. The family moved to Watertown, South Dakota in 1960 and again to Flandreau in 1971 where he continued the same type of work until his illness.
Besides his wife, Helen of Flandreau, he leaves four daughters, Mrs. Darrell (Patricia) Venema, Los Angeles, Ca., Mrs. Maurice (Judy) Volkroth, Watertown, S.D., Mrs. Larry (Betty) Knutson and Mrs. Jim (Joyce) Freesman of Estelline, S.D.; and one son, Ted, Flandreau, S.D.; 14 grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, Erwin, Harwood, N.D., Selmer (Sam), Fargo, Wilfred, Jamestown, Mrs. Gordon (Agnes) Hartvikson, Fargo, and Mrs. Hillmer (Esther) Boelter, West Fargo.
A sister, Mrs. Orville (Mertis) Sorenson of Bagley, Minnesota, preceded him in death.
