Another Pioneer Answers the Final Summons

Perry Leamer, a man respected by all who have known him during his forty-three years' residence in Dakota County, all of which time he resided on the same farm two miles southwest of this place [Dakota City], after an illness covering about three years of cystitis, died at the home of his son, Frank, on Wednesday morning of this week. His life had been despaired of for about a week past, and a trained nurse was in attendance.

During his early life, Mr. Leamer had accumulated a competence by coming into possession of a finely situated Dakota County farm which he equipped with a commodious residence and convenient farm buildings. He was a man whose friends were numbered by his acquaintances, his kindly, genial disposition winning the confidence and esteem of all with whom he had business relations.

The deceased was born at Hollidaysburg, Blair County, Pennsylvania, June 18, 1834, died August 10, 1910, aged 76 years, 1 month and 22 days. He first wed Sarah Geesey in 1860, but she died soon after the marriage whereupon Mr. Leamer married her sister Susan in 1862, coming to Dakota County in 1867. [A third sister, Margaret Geesey, married Perry's older brother George and likewise came to Dakota County in 1867.] Mrs. Leamer passed away October 9, 1902. Ten children were born to them, three of whom – Charlie, Lloyd and Mrs. Lillie Newell are dead. Those living and who are residents of Dakota County are Mesdames Wm. Broyhill, George Warner, Ollie Hale, Thos. W. Gribble and Will and Frank Leamer, also Mrs. Clara Abbott of Burlington Junction, Missouri.

Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church at this place at 2:30 yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. S. L. Keller, and the body was deposited in our village cemetery. The deceased for a long term of years was identified with the Lutheran Church of this place.
