Dakota County Star 9/28/1961 and other dates

Funeral services for William Leamer, 92, 1315 B Street, a lifelong resident of Dakota County who died Tuesday at his home after a long illness will be held at the Jack Becker funeral home. Mr. Leamer was born July 7, 1869, in Dakota County, the son of Perry Leamer and Susan Geesey. He married Iola Allaway on May 1, 1895, in Dakota County. They moved to South Sioux City in 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Leamer celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary May 1. (See more at Iola Leamer Memorial #78418291.)

Mr. Leamer probably had driven an automobile longer than any other Dakota Countyian, having purchased a new Buick in 1910, the third car in Dakota County. "I've never hit anybody yet," Mr. Leamer said of his driving. He drove up until the time of his death, even in Sioux City where one-way streets are a new innovation. He served in the 1920s as Constable for Omadi Precinct.

Mr. Leamer was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Alice Barber of Homer and Mrs. Olive Smith of South Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hale and Mrs. Dora Broyhill, both of Homer; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his young son, Orion.
