David Worthly Mitchem "Dave" was the second oldest of four children born to his parents, Joseph B. Mitchem (died in Civil War) and Barbara Ann Smith Mitchem Flowers. He married the former Martha Ann Willett. He was a fox hunter of note in the State of NC, owned a deer hunting preserve "Oakland" in Bladen Co., NC, and he was a very influential resident of Lowell, NC. He and his wife had 10 children:
