Ahoskie — Funeral services were conducted Friday at 3 pm at Zion Methodist Church for Fred G. Ricks, Sr. who died Thursday, September 21, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Ricks was the son of Richard Sidney and Maude Odom Ricks who pre-deceased him.

Services were performed by the Rev. John Long, the Rev. Floyd Kee and the Rev. Angus Cameron. Burial followed in the Martin Family Cemetery behind the Creeksville Baptist Church.

A native of Northampton County, Mr. Ricks took an active interest in civic and community affairs throughout his life. He was nominated for the Northampton County Board of Education in the 1960 Election but became ill before he was officially appointed by the 1961 North Carolina General Assembly.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Martin Ricks; one son, Fred Gary Ricks Jr. of Oak Ridge, TN; three sisters, Mrs. Bernice Duke of Newsoms, VA, Mrs. Nellie White of Greenville and Mrs. Louise Barrett of Littleton; six brothers, Preston of New York City, Sidney of Seaboard, Otis, Elliott, Gilmer and Lee, all of Conway; one grandchild, Fred Gary Ricks, III of Oak Ridge, TN.
