Raleigh --- Nellie Ricks White, 87, of 5021 Devonwood Place, Raleigh, died Sunday, October 29, 2000, at Mayview Convalescent Center. She was born in Northampton County on February 22, 1913. She received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts Degree from East Carolina University. She taught English and French in North Carolina and Virginia for 31 years. She began her teaching career at Edward Best High School in Franklin County. She later taught at Mineral Springs High School and Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, Junius H. Rose High School in Greenville, Broughton High School in Raleigh, and Annandale High School in Annandale, VA. She retired from teaching in 1973 and moved back to Raleigh. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Raleigh and dearly loved the Livingston Johnson Bible Class. She was preceded in death by her parents Sidney and Maude Ricks and eight brothers.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Benjamin H. White, Sr. of Raleigh; two sons, Benjamin H. White, Jr. of Greensboro and William H. White of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Brian David White of Raleigh, Kathryn C. White of Savannah, GA, Angela White Griffin of St. Simons, GA and Benjamin H. White, III of Winston-Salem; sisters, Bernice Duke of Newsoms, VA and Louise Barrett of Littleton; and 12 nieces and nephews.
